Most homes today are equipped with garbage disposals, and these require routine maintenance to make sure they function as they are supposed to. These definitely come in handy when looking to clean out your fridge or when some at your dinner table decides they can’t eat all of their vegetables, but can be frustrating when something goes wrong. There are a few things to look out for with garbage disposals, like the amount of noise and the proper drainage. Below are some tips to keep in mind regarding your disposal: If there appears to be no power within your disposal: If there is no sound either, the motor within your disposal may have overheated or may be worn out. There may be a small, red button on the bottom of the disposal itself. This is the reset button, and pops out to indicate that the motor has indeed overheated. Try resetting the disposal this way. Check your fuse box and make sure that the power to the disposal is turned on. If this gets turned off, the solution could be as simple as flipping a switch. If there is a jam in the disposal: IMPORTANT: For your safety, NEVER use your hand or fingers to try to clear a jam within your disposal. There is high risk of personal injury, and should never be attempted. Use a tool to try to clear the jam, or contact us at Appliance Repair San Clemente! We would be more than happy to help clear the obstructions from the disposal for you. There are lots of different items that can quickly cause a large jam within your disposal. Use your discretion when putting items into the disposal. Use small pieces at a time, and never put utensils or bones into the disposal, as these are common causes of jams. If you notice an excessive amount of noise when the disposal is running: This could be an indication of a jam or of foreign objects in the disposal that should not be there, i.e. utensils, bones, etc. There could be loose components within the disposal itself. Contact our professional technicians if you suspect an issue with the blades or any unusual obstructions. If you notice any leaks: A part within the sink could need tightened, or perhaps one or more components are in need of repair or replacement. If the water seems to be coming from the body of the disposal itself rather than the sink, the repairs could be more major and may ultimately result in replacement of the disposal. If you notice any of these leaks, especially more severe escaping water, don’t hesitate to give us a call right away. The sooner the leak is stopped, we can work to prevent lasting and major damage. In order to function normally, your disposal will require efficient drainage and plumbing for ideal water flow. If you suspect any issues at all, please give us a call right away at Appliance Repair San Clemente! |
